Meriton Hotels continues with Food Weeks tradition and for the third time we introduce the South-African cuisine and culture. South African Food Weeks are supported by South African embassy in Finland. Paul Senosi from Tallinn European School has been a great help as well.
The food weeks opening gala dinner took place in 27th of September, the opening speech was held by South African Ambassador hr. Sello Moloto and Meriton Hotels Group AS General Manager hr. Heinz Weisl.
Musical entertainment at the gala dinner was provided by Meissa Niang & Sila Fato, a group of reknown, internationally appreciated artists.
Lead vocalist Meissa Niang’s distinctive, unique voice has delighted audiences in all corners of the globe. Of Senegalese origin, Meissa Niang is currently based in Finland.
In Estonia, he is already a frequent performer. Sila Fato in Mandinka language simply means crossing of roads.
The founder of Sila Fato, Maarika Autio, is a rare phenomenon in world music scenes and internationally recognised for her exceptional skills as a balafon player. The Balafon is a kind of wooden xylophone. Cheikh Cissokho learning how to master the kora-harp. The kora is a 21 string West African harp lute traditionally played by griots or hereditary storytellers of the Mande culture.
A true sugar in the bottom is Yerime Gueye, a sought after front-row percussionist, recognised for his skills, especially his talking drum tama seems to have an endless amount of stories and secrets to tell!
Opening gala dinner menu included all the South African cuisine delicacies: African squash soup, char grilled catfish, ostridge and African Melktert. Wines are provided by West Cape.
South-African dishes are available in café Mademoiselle (Paldiski mnt.4) and Bistro Mary (Paldiski mnt.4).
Additionally to the dishes offered in the gala, Meriton cooks and bakers are preparing a variety of other South African deligths.
Café Mademoiselle is open every day 7:00-22:00. Bistro Mary is open Mon-Fri 12:00-15:00.
